The Board of Review is a group of three Township residents appointed by the Board of Trustees to:

  • Review the assessment roll as prepared by the Assessor
  • Hear appeals of individual property assessments
  • Hear requests for temporary exemptions of property tax due to poverty or hardship, and
  • Correct clerical errors found in assessment or tax rolls.

The Board of Review meets on the Tuesday following the first Monday of March to review the assessment roll as presented by the assessor for the current year.  The Board then schedules hearings for property owners to address their individual assessment concerns beginning the following Monday and typically ending the Saturday after that. Hearings are done by appointment or appeals can be written and mailed in or dropped off at the Township offices prior to the final hearing date.  In addition to the March meetings, the Board of Review meets once in July and once in December to correct any clerical errors that may have been found in the current assessment or tax roll or in the previous assessment or tax roll.

The July and December meetings may also include requests for poverty or hardship exemptions for the current year that could not be heard in March.
