Fire Department Statistics

This page will continue to evolve as we collect and publish better data.

Annual Call Volume

We record the number of calls for service annually, which can provide an overview of emergencies within the community. However, we do not respond on 100% of the medical calls that occur within the community. There are some calls that Huron Valley Ambulance handles without assistance from the Fire Department. In June 2021, the call types we respond on increased, as our dispatch center upgraded their dispatch software. All 5200 call types were reviewed and the types of calls that we will respond on was increased accordingly. Previous years call volumes are as follows:

2023: 1,595
2022: 1,451
2021: 1,325
2020: 932 (responses were reduced due to COVID)
2019: 1,073
2018: 1,018
2017: 903
2016: 770
2015: 735
2014: 791
2013: 793

Response Times

Using the map below, you can see the average response time to all areas of Scio Township. This includes only response times for your Fire Department. Times are in minute/second format, 3:15 is 3 minutes 15 seconds. Data does not differentiate between emergency and non-emergency responses.

Response times are made up of 3 components, call processing time at the dispatch center, turnout time (time from when firefighters are alerted until they begin responding), and drive time (time to actually drive to the scene).

On the map below, zone is indicated by the number in the yellow circle in each square mile section of Scio Township. Response zones closer to the fire station have lower response times.

Number of responses per zone

Using the same map, we collect data on the number of responses per square mile section of Scio Township. The numbers below represent the number of times we respond to a certain area of the Township. Numbers will not add up to total call volume, as we respond out of Scio Township at the request of a neighboring department on a regular basis.

Generally, we respond with greater frequency to areas of the Township that have higher population density, and with less frequency to areas that have lower population density.
