The Washtenaw County Road Commission has closed the intersection of Miller and Zeeb roads to construct a roundabout. Construction should be complete by mid-July, weather dependent. The suggested Miller Road detour map is here. The suggested Zeeb Road detour map is here.
GFL is the only provider approved for residential waste-hauling service within Scio Township. If a Scio resident has another, legal way to dispose of their household trash and recycling, then they may opt out of residential waste-hauling entirely. Those are the two options. The Township ordinance forbids contracting with another waste hauler for residential pickup.
If at least one person in the household is 65 years or older, then the household is eligible for a 5% discount. Disabled veterans may also provide documentation to obtain a 5% discount. To request the senior discount: make a copy of your driver’s license and either mail or email it as follows:
(You may black out the driver’s license number, GFL only needs to confirm date of birth.)
How do I pause trash pickup while I am away from home?
If you would like to pause residential waste and recycling service for 30 to 90 days, complete this form and email it to gfluscustomerservice@gflenv.com, or send it by mail to GFL Environmental, 26999 Central Park Blvd., Ste 200, Southfield, MI 48076.
How do I sign up for GFL Service?

1) You can go to the GFL website to request new services, then get a follow-up from GFL
2) You can call the GFL customer service department at 734-224-5582

How soon after I sign up will I receive bins from GFL?

What about yard waste?
Yard waste pickup is seasonal, starting in early April and ending mid-December. There is no designated yard waste bin. Homeowners can either place yard waste in large, craft paper bags or their own, reusable can. The Township will have a supply of GFL decals with which homeowners may label reusable containers. Christmas trees with all decorations removed will be picked up at any time as part of residential service.
What can I do with the items that GFL won't accept for recycling?
Scio Township closed its monthly recycling drop off in spring of 2020 in response to the COVID pandemic. The Township is currently evaluating how and when to reinstate the recycling drop-off program in coordination with the GFL curbside recycling pick-up. In the meantime, the Recycle Ann Arbor guide will help determine options for various types of recyclables. Or you can use the Waste Wizard function offered by WRRMA to locate recycling options.
What do I do if I have a complaint about some aspect of GFL service?
Contact Customer Service via the GFL website or by phone at 734-224-5582; or send an email. The customer service representative will create a complaint “ticket” that will go to Route Manager Mark Robinson for resolution.
What holidays will affect my trash collection?

Thanksgiving, Memorial Day, Christmas, July 4, and Labor Day.
Collection services will be delayed by ONE day during the holiday week, beginning the date of the holiday.
What if a GFL customer service representative has incorrect information about Scio Township?
Occasionally GFL customer service representatives have given inaccurate information to Scio residents. Scio Township’s contract differs from those GFL has with other municipalities. Because GFL customer service reps respond to issues in multiple communities they may sometimes get confused by different rules. The errors by GFL customer service reps will diminish as they become more familiar with Scio Township’s service guidelines.
What if GFL misses a scheduled pickup?
When recycling and/or trash is missed during a scheduled pickup, the best remedy is to call GFL customer service at 734-224-5582 and speak to a GFL customer service rep. They will ask for the address and create a note for the route manager. If multiple houses have been missed, that’s important information to pass along to GFL.
